A new private study is showing that certain exercises, such as meditation and stretching, may help ease symptoms in veterans suffering from PTSD. These exercises are called “mindfulness treatment” and, in a pilot study, have been shown to be far more effective at easing PTSD symptoms such as avoidance and numbness than regular treatment.
In fact, the study revealed that 73% of veterans who received eight weeks of treatment, by participating in relaxation techniques for PTSD, had a noticeable decrease in PTSD symptoms. The veterans who participated in this study had been suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome for anywhere from 15 to 50 years.
A new larger study is now underway, and this study will evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
