Veterans Help Group Lining Up in Opposition to Proposed Unemployability Cuts

i 3 Table Of Contents

The Trump administration’s budget proposes to cut individual unemployability benefits for service-connected veterans once they reach the earliest retirement age for Social Security (age 62). This would cut benefits from 225,000 veterans and their dependents. Now, a number of veterans service organizations have come out against this proposal. The Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Amvets are all publicly advocating against this proposal. They rightly argue that the proposed unemployability cuts will hurt the most financially vulnerable veterans and result in financial devastation to many of them.

The White House claims this money is needed to fund the increased budget for the VA. However, in reality, this is a classic case of robbing Peter to pay Paul, only Peter is poorer than Paul. Concerned veterans are encouraged to contact their respective Congressmen and voice their opposition to the proposal.
