The 7 Best Patriotic Beers

Even though Independence Day has come and gone, continue celebrating your patriotism by sipping on these delicious American made beers all summer long. While Budweiser has long staked the claim of the national beer of America, we decided to focus solely on nationally brewed beverages and Bud is owned by a Belgian-Brazilian conglomerate.

Grab a craft beer to toast America. As the pioneers of the beer industry, they compete against industry giants and they are self-made, much like this country’s heroes.

Homefront IPA

Homefront IPA was created in 2011 by craft brewers with one goal in mind: to honor and support the men and women of America’s armed forces.

Homefront is aged on donated Louisville Slugger maple bats, brewed with donated hops from Yakima’s Puterbaugh Farms and infused with fresh orange peel. In 2016, a minimum of $150,000 from the sale of this beer was donated to Soldiers Angels, an organization providing aid and comfort to the men and women of our country’s armed forces

Anchor Liberty Ale

Liberty Ale was first brewed in 1975 to commemorate the bicentennial of Paul Revere’s iconic ride. This beer is brewed strictly according to traditional craft brewing methods and uses only natural ingredients.

The champagne-like bubbles fit the occasion, as it’s the perfect can for pouring a frothy toast to the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

Anthem Golden Ale

With the tagline, “Just the thing to make you sing”, this Baltimore brewery makes reference to the famed “Star-Spangled Banner” written by Francis Scott Key as he watched the bombardment on the Baltimore fort.

It has a light hop character, but it’s a cream ale at its heart, refreshing dutifully and with honor. At 5% ABV, you could drink a battalion of these soldiers between refrains of the national anthem.

American Amber Ale

The American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier and won Best of the NW/Pacific Region in the United States Beer Tasting Championship two years in a row.

The tawny red ale has a toffee aroma and roasted malt notes ending on a smooth finish. It pairs nicely with the end of a hard day’s work.

Brew Free! Or Die IPA

If you are a fan of hops, 21st Amendment Brewery’s Brew Free! Or Die embodies American Patriotism. The San Francisco brewer is proud from its name down to the beer can design.

With an image of Abe Lincoln on the label, this can packs a punch full of west coast attitude featuring three different hops. We also appreciate the adaption of the state motto of New Hampshire for the beer’s name. This IPA does the Granite State proud.

Rise

This stout from Revolution Brewing Company in Chicago definitely rises to the occasion of toasting America. It won a 2012 World Beer Cup Gold medal and is well regarded for the unique take on this beer style.

Utilizing pale ale, caramel malt, roasted barley and dark chocolate malt, the results is a medium bodied beer that is rich, complex and quite hoppy!

White House Honey Ale

For the homebrewers out there, this one is for you! You will have to make this at home to get a taste. Obama was intrigued by the craft beer movement sweeping the nation and decided to get in on the action. The recipe is the first beer ever brewed on the White House grounds. (History buffs note that George Washington brewed beer at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine.) So if you take the time to whip this up, you will be drinking a little piece of history. Check out the White House blog for more details and the full recipe.
