California Helps with VA Claims

California helps with VA claims through new advocate: the State of California is moving to help the federal government cut the backlog of veterans’ disability claims with a new advocate creating a 36-member state strike force to help the VA process claims. The state budget allocated $3 million to the California Department of Veterans Affairs to stand up 12-member teams at the federal VA regional offices in Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Diego. The Los Angeles office now has the worst record for processing claims, averaging 629 days. The Oakland office is not far behind, at 592 days. The San Diego office is taking an average of 345 days.

Nationwide, the average time required for the VA to process claims is 338 days, according to the department’s July 8 workload report.
