A push to help veterans in need, expansion in the VA Crisis Line Center

Reaching out for assistance is never an easy task, but for suicidal veterans it is not only difficult to make that first move but the call for help can often times go unanswered. In a recent audit done at the Veterans Crisis Line researchers found that a large majority of calls were going unanswered. They also discovered voicemails not being returned, and veterans not receiving appropriate assistance within the designated time frame. With the suicide rate for veterans being 20 per day this is something that must be changed. The VA indicated their facilities have hired more responders to assist with the influx of calls, removed the voicemail system to assure every call gets answered, and expand mental health for women. Promises for change in the system has been made in the past with few positive outcomes but the VA hopes this time it will be different.
