VHG in the Community: Making a Difference One Step at a Time

By Amy McArdle Senior Advocate, Catherine Temple Senior Advocate, and Bobbi Boudi Director of Community Outreach

At Veterans Help Group (VHG), we believe that advocacy goes beyond just assisting with VA disability claims. We’re committed to creating a positive impact in the communities we serve. We encourage all VHG employees to actively participate in community-building efforts, believing that a network of engaged and passionate individuals can truly make a difference.

As we head into the year, we’ve been fortunate to participate in several initiatives that support veterans and their families, foster stronger community connections, and offer assistance to those in need. Here are some of the highlights of VHG’s recent community involvement.

Honoring a Hero: The Leroy A. Petry Scholarship

In January, VHG was proud to be part of something special, a scholarship in honor of Master Sergeant Leroy A. Petry, a Medal of Honor recipient and Army Ranger whose bravery exemplifies the highest ideals of service to our country. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to the families of Army veterans and service members. It’s a meaningful way to honor the legacy of those who have given so much. You can learn more about the scholarship and its impact here.

Connecting Veterans and the Charleston Community

In February, VHG Senior Advocate Amy McArdle joined Joe Waring, CEO of Advocacy Solutions, at the Military Affaire of Charleston with the Palmetto Military Support Group. The goal of this group is to strengthen the bond between military service members and the local Charleston community through volunteering, fundraising, and education. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect and collaborate for the greater good. You can learn more about the group and their work here.

Supporting Post-9/11 Veterans

March saw VHG sponsoring the Vantage Point Foundation’s Fore/Ward Golf Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina. The Vantage Point Foundation’s mission is to empower and guide post-9/11 veterans as they transition to civilian life. Supporting events like this allows us to directly contribute to the growth and success of veterans in their next chapter. For more on this great organization and their work, visit here.

Addressing Veteran Suicide: Collaborating with Zero Suicide Partners

Our Director of Community Outreach, Bobbi Boudi, has been instrumental in forming partnerships with various organizations that align with VHG’s mission. One notable collaboration is with Zero Suicide Partners of Pinellas County (ZPOP), which works tirelessly to reduce suicide rates, an issue that deeply affects veterans. Their motto, “Even one life lost to suicide is one too many,” is something that resonates deeply with us at VHG. Learn more about their impactful work here.

Empowering Communities: The Mission Continues

In February, Bobbi also attended a meeting with The Mission Continues, an organization dedicated to connecting veterans with non-profits and community leaders to tackle pressing issues like food insecurity, education, and fostering neighborhood identity. We’re excited about the upcoming Mission Continues event in Tampa, Florida, in December 2025, and look forward to continuing our support of this incredible initiative.
