Chairman Jeff Miller introduced the VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act of 2016. The main focus of this Act is to protect whistle blowers from reprisals and holding those employees who are not complying with the organizations regulations accountable. Other changes include, shortening the firing/demotion process from over a year to no more than 77 days, removing the Merit System Protection Board for senior executives, give the VA secretary the authority to recoup bonuses and relocation expenses from disobedient employees and reduce pension of senior executives convicted of felonies that influenced their job performance. All over these changes are being done in hopes to correct the lack of accountability among employees at all levels of the VA.
