Breast Cancer And Camp Lejeune Contamination

Breast Cancer And Camp Lejeune Contamination

Water contamination at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina impacted thousands of Marines and their families who were stationed there between the 1950s and the 1980s. The water on the base was dangerous to drink, bathe in, and use.  If you or a loved one developed an illness in the years following being stationed at Camp Lejeune, you might be eligible for compensation.  Here are some things you need to know.

What Caused Water Contamination at Camp Lejeune?

The dry cleaning company near Camp Lejeune, ABC One-Hour Cleaners, gave no warning to the base that it was putting chemicals in the water supply, which means those living on the base had no warning about the polluted water. The two pollutants found in the water were perchloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE).

Can Contaminated Water Cause Breast Cancer?

There is no direct correlation to date that contaminated water can cause breast cancer, however, some studies of Marines who served at Camp Lejeune developed early onset breast cancer due to exposure to PCE and TCE. Aside from breast cancer, you might be eligible for compensation if you have one of the following diseases:

  • Adult leukemia
  • Aplastic anemia and other myelodysplastic syndromes
  • Bladder cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Parkinson’s disease
