Warning on Scams to Charge Vets for Filing Applications for VA Pensions

Veterans should be aware of scams involving companies that require payments for processing VA pensions and benefit forms. The “pension poachers” are targeting veterans through seminars and other veteran outreach events. It is important for veterans everywhere to be aware that these are scams to charge vets: veterans do not have to pay for processing VA pension and benefits forms. In fact, it is a violation of VA regulations for anyone to charge a veteran for the filing of a new claim for pension benefits. If you encounter someone doing this please report it to the VA.

More Information: Filing an Application for VA Pension or Benefits

You can read more here about veterans pension benefits, including aid & attendance benefits. Visit the VA’s website for more information on how to apply for veterans pension benefits.

Or read more here about the VA benefits application and appeals process.

Although organizations cannot charge for processing applications, many groups offer free assistance and a veterans advocate may offer an evaluation of your claim. You may hire an advocate if you need to appeal a VA decision that you believe was wrong. In the case of Veterans Help Group, we do not charge you fees when you hire us to assist with an appeal: you pay us only when you succeed.
