On Sunday, August 26, approximately 2,500 runners took part in the fifth annual Run for the Fallen at a course in Riverview, Florida. The purpose of the race was to honor the sacrifices made by military personnel participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as their families. Attendees could participate in a candlelight memorial and view the Florida Fallen Memorial. Attorney Daniel Smith represented Veterans Help Group at the race and participated in the 10k “Tough Track” event.
More information on the event, which is scheduled to be held again next August, can be found at RunForTheFallen.org.
About Run for the Fallen
Run for the Fallen has its origins in a 2008 cross-country run begun by a small team of runners to remember and support veterans.
Thousands of other runners across the United States and in several other countries later joined in honor and remembrance of all fallen service members killed in both Iraq and Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom).
Since then, over 50,000+ runners from around the world have joined Run for the Fallen in additional races, logging over 200,000 collective miles in remembrance of those fallen in OIF and OEF.
