On Saturday night Veterans Help Group was honored to sponsor the Threshers Military and Veterans Appreciation Game for the 4th straight year and the 2nd year that we have sponsored the Hometown Heroes Military baseball card set.  We would like to give a special shout out to the proud military moms who have reached out to us by letting us know their son was on this year’s card set.  The Hometown Heroes is one of the highlights of the start of the game.  All who are represented in the card set and able to attend were honored on the field.  There was a special In Memoriam for those who are no longer with us.

A special swearing-in ceremony of Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard recruits took place before the singing of the National Anthem.  The 3,000 + Threshers fans and Military supporters in attendance were proud to witness the start of their military careers.

The special guest of the evening was Sgt. Slaughter, retired professional wrestler and WWE ambassador.  Dan, Ralph, Sgt. Slaughter, Lindsey, and Doug (from left to right) had a chance to pose with him on the field before the game.

Veterans groups on site passing out information included:

Besides the fireworks show at sunset, one of the most exciting moments was the entrance of the Para Commandos. There were a total of 4 Pararescue Specialists who made the jump and wowed the crowd with their skill.  One carried the Threshers flag down and two combined together to emphasis the arrival of the American flag.  Afterwards, the advocates were able to have a photo with them brave men who brought the flag to the stadium.

With all of the excitement and patriotism throughout the evening,  the Threshers were still able to beat the Port Charlotte Stone Crabs 3-2.  We look forward to sponsoring next year’s Military and Veteran Appreciation Night with the Clearwater Threshers.
