VA Math Doesn’t Add Up? Our VA Disability Calculator Does.

If your VA disability rating doesn’t seem to reflect your actual conditions, you’re not alone, and you’re not imagining things. The VA uses a complex formula to calculate combined disability ratings, and they rely heavily on a computer program that has at times made errors. These mistakes have resulted in some veterans receiving incorrect monthly payments, costing them thousands in lost benefits.

That’s why Veterans Help Group created a more accurate tool:

What’s Wrong with VA Math?

The VA doesn’t simply add your ratings together. Instead, they use “percentage of the whole” math. For example, two 10% ratings don’t equal 20%. They actually combine to 19%, which rounds to 20%. This tends to get more confusing as you add more conditions, especially when you’re trying to reach 100%.

How Our Calculator Helps

We built our free VA Disability Calculator to help veterans like you get a clearer picture of what your rating should be.

With this helpful tool, you can enter multiple conditions, add dependents, and see your estimated monthly compensation based on the most recent 2025 VA rates. It’s easy, accurate, and a great way to spot possible errors before they turn into lost benefits.
