VA Disability Benefits and Tax Exemptions: What You Should Know
Written by: Schuyler Swanton, Associate Advocate
As a veteran receiving VA disability compensation, you are entitled to certain tax benefits.
It is important to know that monthly disability compensation payments are tax-free at the federal AND state level.
Although each state’s rules may vary, many states and local governments offer additional tax benefits to include property tax exemptions, motor vehicle tax exemptions, and/or business tax exemptions.
Property tax exemptions can vary based on location, but some states offer full or partial exemption from property taxes for your primary residence based on your disability ratings.
