Veterans Help Group Serving Our Community

By Bobbi Boudi, Director of Community Outreach & Amy McArdle, Senior Advocate

At Veterans Help Group, our mission goes beyond helping veterans access the benefits they’ve earned, it extends into the communities we serve. Whether through national events or local outreach, our team is committed to honoring heroes, giving back, and making a real difference.

This month, we’re proud to highlight the ways VHG continues to uplift, educate, and support veterans across the country.

Honoring Heroes: “An Evening of Honor” in Chicago & Atlanta

We were honored to co-sponsor two powerful events hosted by the National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership, both titled “An Evening of Honor.”

  • In Chicago, Medal of Honor recipients Harvey C. “Barney” Barnum, Jr., USMC (Ret.) and Ryan M. Pitts, US Army (Ret.) shared their stories of courage, leadership, and life after service. The event featured a private dinner and a leadership forum, proudly supported by Veterans Help Group and Richard Purpose Builders.

  • In Atlanta, attendees heard from Edward C. Byers, Jr., US Navy (Ret.), and Leroy A. Petry, US Army (Ret.), both Medal of Honor recipients whose service in Afghanistan left a lasting legacy of valor.

Supporting Local Veterans & Communities

Honor Flight Fundraiser – Clearwater, FL

Our team attended the 2nd Annual Honor Flight Fundraiser at OCC Road House in Clearwater. The event raises funds to send veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials in their honor, completely free of charge.

VHG Case Manager Kyra Fox even served as a Guardian on the June 17th Honor Flight. Her takeaway?

“It was the best day ever.”

Veterans Benefits Talk – Morgantown, WV

Senior Advocate Victoria Gorby traveled to speak with the Valley HealthCare Veterans’ Coalition, offering actionable tips on how veterans can strengthen their VA disability claims and maximize their benefits.

Standing Up for Veterans Facing Homelessness

In June, our team participated in Stand Down for Homelessness events in Georgetown, SC and Chicago, IL. These events provide essential services like food, housing resources, and health screenings for homeless and at-risk veterans.

On May 17th, we sponsored the National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership at a special Armed Forces Day game. Two Medal of Honor recipients were honored on the field, and our own Joe Waring (CEO of Advocacy Solutions) had the privilege of singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”
